Service for International Guidance and Hospitality to Travellers

SIGHT, established some decades ago, is a very successful network of Mensans who want to meet other Mensans. Some travel to do so, whilst others welcome travelling Mensans into their homes. SIGHT aims to look after both hosts and guests, providing each party with the information necessary to enable them to be considerate and helpful to each other. As we are all well aware, contact with fellow Mensans can be most rewarding. The International Director sends out regular and updated listings of SIGHT co-ordinators. At present count there are forty-one countries throughout the planet that offer the SIGHT service.

SIGHT is not an immigration agency, a job-placement agency, a pen-pal agency or a source of long-term or permanent accommodation. SIGHT co-ordinators cannot be expected to deal with any queries except those for advice, assistance or information on genuine short-term travel.

How SIGHT works for Mensans:
The SIGHT traveller writes, emails or faxes the co-ordinator of the country to which he/she wishes to travel. The traveller, on applying for assistance, needs to include international reply coupons, dollars, etc. with all postal correspondence to cover costs. Guests need to apply well ahead of their trip and include general details viz. name, address, proof of current Mensa membership, age, special requirements (dietary, allergies, smoking, etc.). They also need to mention their itinerary, and any queries they might have regarding internal travel, rentals, accommodation, security, public transport, places of interest, or whatever. (a form will be available online soon)

The co-ordinator then contacts the SIGHT representative for the appropriate region or goes directly to a suitable host, to inform them that a guest wishes to visit. After the guest is contacted and given the names of a number of hosts, communication takes place directly between host and guest. It is important that all arrangements with respect to possible accommodation charges or offers of assistance (meals, transport, etc.) available to assist the guest, are established before the visit. Other important issues that need clarification when in direct contact with the guest are telephone charges, usage of hot water, smoking arrangements, etc. Should any problems occur between the host and visitor, the co-ordinator should be informed of this immediately.

It's a very worthwhile service for both SIGHT hosts and travellers and lasting friendships can be created through your interaction with SIGHT.
